Dr. Ouyang is responsible for providing support to the academic departments and their chairs for faculty recruitment, development, and retention; working with the Unified Campus Teams to support initiatives related to professional development; and developing strategies and processes for identification, nomination, and advancement of faculty for College, University and national and international awards and other distinctions. Dr. Ouyang joined the Medical Center and College of Medicine in 1992 as Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, a position she held until 2005. She has played an active role in faculty development throughout her career. She is a member of the Neurosciences Graduate Program, and several national committees that provide faculty development awards. Dr. Ouyang has also been a member of the College of Medicine’s Promotion and Tenure Committee, has been a member of the Women Faculty Development Group since 1996, and has mentored junior faculty through the Junior Faculty Development Program. Dr. Ouyang has an active research program and has served on NIH study sections and research committees of her subspecialty national organizations. Her research interest is in the physiology of gastrointestinal motility, the brain-gut axis and the pathophysiology of intestinal motility disorders. She continues to care for patients with gastrointestinal disorders with a focus on GI motility and functional bowel disorders and is co-Director of one of eleven Clinical Training Program in Motility in the US, sponsored by the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society.
