    Ph.D., Kent State University, 2009
Postdoctoral Training, Penn State Hershey Heart & Vascular Institute, 2010-2012

I am currently Assistant Professor of Medicine at Penn State Hershey Heart & Vascular Institute/Penn State College of Medicine. My experiments focus on the control of arterial blood pressure and local blood flow (i.e., coronary, renal, skeletal muscle, and skin) in human subjects. To study these processes, I use the techniques of microneurography, transthoracic Doppler echocardiography, and functional magnetic resonance imaging. Recently, my experiments have utilized pharmacological strategies to stimulate and block alpha- and beta- adrenergic receptors. I am currently funded by a 2-year career development award (KL2 TR000126) to study the acute adaptations to dynamic leg exercise in patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD). In this project I am also studying alpha- and beta- adrenergic control of skeletal muscle blood flow and coronary blood flow in PAD. In the past three years, 7 of my medical and graduate students have published a total of 9 first-author manuscripts in peer-reviewed physiology journals. The overall goals of my studies are to 1) define physiological mechanisms in healthy humans, 2) characterize maladaptations to aging and disease, and 3) propose new approaches to improve health and human performance.
