Who is listed in Penn State Profiles?

Penn State Profiles contains a collection of active and emeritus Penn State faculty members from the Penn State University.

Why isn’t my profile listed in Penn State Profiles?

Due to the nature of the data we used to determine our initial list of faculty members, there may be some faculty members missing. If you discover that your profile is missing, you can request that it be added by sending an email to: profiles@hmc.psu.edu

What information am I able to modify in my Profile without assistance?

  • Personal Photo
  • Background Information
  • Publications
  • Hand-entered publications

Why does my profile display incorrect information?

If you discover that information displayed on your profile is incorrect, you can request changes be made to your profile by sending an email to: profiles@hmc.psu.edu

Who do I contact with questions regarding listing publications on my page?

Who has access to Penn State Profiles?

Anyone on the Internet will have the ability to search and browse the Penn State Profiles system. However, only members with Penn State Access Accounts are able to login and perform additional tasks, such as editing their profile. Note that you will not be able to edit your profile until you link your Penn State Access Account with Profiles. To do this contact profiles@hmc.psu.edu A few staff members also have “proxy” access, which permits them to edit other peoples’ profiles.

How do I login?

Click on the “Login to Profiles” link on the menu. Use your Penn State Access ID Account to authenticate. If you're at the Hershey campus and you’ve forgotten your password, please see the staff in the Harrell library who will walk you through resetting it. Note that you will not be able to edit your profile until you link your Penn State Access Account with Profiles. To do this contact profiles@hmc.psu.edu.

How do I edit my profile?

Click on the "Edit My Profile" link on the menu. If you are not already logged into WebAccess you will be prompted to do so. Otherwise, you will be redirected to the profile edit page. Note that you will not be able to edit your profile until you link your Penn State Access Account with Profiles. To do this contact profiles@hmc.psu.edu.

Where does Penn State Profiles get its data?

Penn State Profiles retrieves its data from multiple sources.

  • Publications are retrieved from PubMed; depending upon a number of factors (including the commonality of your name), there may be publications listed that do not belong to you. These can easily be removed in edit mode. You may also be missing publications. If they’re indexed in PubMed, you can easily enter these in edit mode. If they’re not in PubMed, you may enter them manually in edit mode.
  • Narrative information from the “Find a Physician” portal, if any exists
  • Narrative information from the departmental web pages, if any exists
  • The faculty member or their proxy may edit their information.

How frequently is Penn State Profiles updated?

  • The publications are updated every two weeks.
  • The directory information (e.g. names, departments, titles, contact information, etc.) is static.

I can login, but cannot edit my profiles. How can I fix this?

You will not be able to edit your profile until you link your Penn State Access Account with Profiles. To do this contact profiles@hmc.psu.edu.
