NARRATIVE:
Dr. Johnson received his B.S. from Muhlenberg College and his Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. Following postdoctoral work in neurophysiology, he joined the faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Before coming to Penn State in 1991 as Professor of Cellular and Molecular Physiology and Director, Center for Grants and Contracts, Johnson served as an AAAS Congressional Science Fellow and in various positions in the extramural programs at the National Institutes of Health including Director, Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases, NIDDK.
In his current position, Johnson provides leadership for the development of sponsored research programs at Penn State’s Hershey Medical Center. In this capacity, Johnson provides advice and assistance to investigators who are seeking support for new and continuing research and training programs and facilitates collaborative research involving basic scientists and clinical investigators at Hershey, University Park, and other Penn State campuses.
