NARRATIVE:

Dr. Gluckman's research focuses on the dynamics of neural systems, how group dynamics form or emerge from the coupled dynamics of individual units, and how to measure and interact with these systems. Current research topics include:
• Seizure Prediction as a route to understanding the transitions from normal or stable brain dynamics into seizure.
• PLEF – polarizing low-frequency electric fields as a tool for modulating neural activity and probing or controlling brain dynamics.
• Applications of Data Assimilation for the observation and control of biological systems. Ongoing projects include reconstructing the dynamics of the sleep-wake regulatory system, as well as tracking and predicting blood glucose dynamics for human ICU use, as well as the design of model-based controllers for controlling epilepsy.
• Nano- to macro-scale anatomy of brain as a platform for understanding the physics of brain: Solid Mechanics (stress/strain), fluid dynamics, transport, and propagation of electric fields. These govern brain dynamics and function, what we measure, how we design the next generation of interfaces, and how brain is damaged.
