Background
PREFERRED TITLE/ROLE:

Professor and Chair Emeritus of Medicine, Professor Cellular and Molecular Physiology, Physician

SECONDARY APPOINTMENT(S)/ INSTITUTE(S)/ CENTER(S):

Cellular and Molecular Physiology

EDUCATION:

M.D., University of Chicago, 1964
Postdoctoral Training, Harvard University, Boston, 1964-1966
Postdoctoral Training, National Heart Institute, 1966-1968

NARRATIVE:

The primary research interest in this laboratory is to define the abnormalities in the control of regional blood flow and the sympathetic nervous system that accompany congestive heart failure. Chronic heart failure in rats (myocardial infarction) and humans is currently being investigated. The role of the sympathetic nervous system in heart failure is being evaluated by 3H-norepinephrine kinetic studies using multicompartmental modeling in humans and isolated perfused rat hearts.
